Keeping a protein bar with you can keep you from getting too hungry or resorting to fast food if you have a delay when you're traveling or running errands. It buys you time so you can make a rational decision about your next meal. Better to eat the protein bar and risk going over by 100 calories than to make a hasty food decision that could cost you 800! If I'm traveling with a friend I bring an extra for my friend, too. You never know when you'll need it, and they're always glad you did.
