Count Calories before you go out to eat.

I've found it best when my husband and I go out to eat, is to pick the place out and check out the nutrition facts online before we go. That way I have an idea of how many calories will be in each meal and what I'm safe to order without over doing it!

I like to find interesting, yet healthy foods. Two examples of recent finds are dried plantain chips (110 calories a serving) and a water beverage made with cocoa beans that comes in cherry (which tastes exactly like a chocolate covered cherry) and mint (50 calories a bottle). This makes finding food into a sort of a game. Another gem is Trader Joe's kettle corn (130 calories a serving). I have everyone at work hooked on it.

"made with whole wheat" does equal WHOLE wheat.

I learned this from the Eat This, NOt That books. Read carefully when buying breads and things. If it says "wheat bread" or "made with wheat" or "made with whole grains", it is NOT WHOLE WHEAT/GRAIN. It just has some thrown in, and the rest is just processed white flour. It must say "Whole Wheat" or "100% whole wheat" for it to really be whole grain.

I have a hard time remembering to eat slowly, so when I pick up my fork, I use the opposite hand I write with. It makes me eat slower because I can't get to my food as quickly and reminds me to slow down! I find by doing this I eat a lot less and stop when I'm full.

Cheerios!

Don't forget about plain old "boring" Cheerios! They taste great with milk and a sprinkle of Splenda (obviously - it's cereal after all...), mixed into flavored yogurt or plain yogurt and a dash of cinnamon, or just eaten plain when you're craving a crunchy snack. At 100 calories for a cup (that's really a LOT of them), they can easily fit into a day's calorie allowance. There's a reason that they've been around so long - because they're awesome!

Fill Her Up!

I've discovered that if I can stuff myself with water and veggies and fruits when I'm hungry I won't keep craving unhealthy foods. If I let myself get very hungry I find that I go after less healthy and more calorie/fat dense foods. I now know that I don't need to be starving to lose weight. Just gotta keep filling up that water glass and keep the fridge stocked with produce.

Start on an yoga mat on all fours. Engage your abdominals while you maintain normal breathing.

Raise your left arm and right leg. The maximum height you should go is to horizontal; you don't have to lift that high when you are first starting this exercise. Only go as high as you can without 'hollowing' your low back.

Slowly return to the start position.

Repeat 10 - 12 times, then switch and do the other arm & leg. Repeat the entire sequence as desired.

At the start of the week make a veggie soup...because the main ingredients is vegetables, you can put as many as you want in it so it will fill you up on your dinners. If you make a tomato based soup, if you get bored half way through the week, there is nothing stopping you from adding a bit of cream/natural yogurt...still there won't be many calories and will be filing.
