Comfort Food

Awhile back I read a "Secret" where someone used oatmeal for her comfort food. I really liked that. So the past 2 weeks I've been doing that, when I wanted a comfort food having oatmeal with some cinnamon and raisins in it. or a little butter, which i don't usually add. It does work, and it has solved a big problem for me. I'm going to try some with peanut butter, like she suggested.

My favorite eating out tip is to split entrees with a friend. If you want different entrees split the entree and have it put in a doggie bag first. That way you do not have the temptation to eat more than you want.

Drinking Enough Water

I never drink enough water, so lately, along with the bottle I take with me when I jog, I have been trying to drink a bottle on my way to work before I have my breakfast. That way I start the day hydrated, even if I don't stay that way. I find I don't get hungry as much either.

Easy trick to handle condiment calories

It seems like a lot of condiments have serving sizes of two tablespoons--salsa, peanut butter, sour cream, etc. I was making an egg burrito a while ago and put sour cream and salsa in it. I didn't realize until afterward, but I had accidentally measured with the 1/2 tablespoon, so I was actually only eating 1 tablespoon total of each. Since then, I always do this, and I almost always have enough of the condiment. It helps me save on fat and calories, but still get the flavor. Try it out!

Use snack-sized baggies for portion control!

Whenever I buy crackers, pretzel sticks, nuts, dried fruits or any other snack item, I make a point of counting or measuring portion sizes into snack baggies. Then I place the baggies into the empty bag or box and keep them in my pantry. That way, when I want a snack, I just grab a baggy and know I will be eating exactly the right portion. Frozen veggies are OK

I used to feel bad about eating frozen veggies vs. fresh veggies, until I learned that frozen veggies can actually be better for you and contain more nutrients! I hate cooked peas but frozen peas as a snack is delicious!

Protein is your friend!

I'm an ex-vegetarian, and it is still hard for me to think of meat as an option. That meant my protein intake was usually a good 20 grams below the recommended amount. I decided to up my intake to 80-100g a day, and the awesome side effect has been almost completely eliminating my between meal hunger! Protein is your friend on this journey!

Cherry Tomatoes - Pop in Some Flavor!

Cherry tomatoes make great guiltless snacks. When I open the fridge door looking for something to munch on they are the first thing I see. They have a nice bright flavor that prevents me from grazing. Plus, it is kind of fun to pop them in your mouth and hear them crunch! Each cherry tomato is only 3 calories. For me bread was my weakness, now I keep meals to 2 servings of veggies (ie a salad and say broccolli) and my serving of proteins. It has helped me loose 30 lbs. Changing the mind set for the old meat and potatos up bringing has been good. Pure banana ice cream with nothing addid.

Peel a ripe banana and immediately wrap it tightly in cling film. Place in the freezer compartment until completely frozen. Remove about 15 - 20 mins before using and leave to defrost a little. Get all of the unhealthy food out of your house, and don't let anyone bring it in. Portion control is so much harder when the rest of your favourite chocolate bar is right there. Treats are great, but save them for when you're eating away from home and can give the rest of something to a friend or co-worker. If all you have in the house is healthy food, your boredom eating will stop ruining your diet.
