When Temptation Comes...GO FOR IT!

When tempted or craving those "undesirable" foods...you know, chocolate, cake, ice cream, cookies, candy...I give into it from the offset. This way, I can stay in control and find that a small piece, tiny bite, or "fun size" portion will satisfy the craving. It does not kill my caloric intake for the day and I can put that nasty craving behind me!

By holding out, I usually inevitably give in later and consume much more than had I dealt with it from the onset.

My child has to be coerced to eat--there are certain foods she enjoys eating herself, but she runs off & plays between bites. I stretch out my meals so I'm taking bites when she is. I eat less & feel more full. My portions are bigger than hers, but my bites are, too. Plus, I've learned the value of making finger foods fun, healthy, & kid-friendly at the same time. I want her to eat healthy, & it's impossible for me to cook healthy for her but not for me, because she wants whatever I have!

Graze with intention

Once I'm at work, half my lunch goes straight to my desk, where I eat it gradually. I start eating lunch about two hours into my shift and finish two hours later. Then I take my lunch break and eat the other half. Spreading my meal out keeps me from getting ravenously hungry, which makes me less likely to eat impulsively, from the vending machine or from the fridge when I get home.

Staying in Control at Buffets

This is my tip to prevent wrecking all your hard work in one fatal swoop, 4 steps to stay on-target:
1) First have a big plate of lettuce and other veggies--no dressing on this first plate (or seeds, bacon bits, eggs...). Nothing but raw veggies.
2) Next have a plate of cooked veggies. Aim for half cup servings of 3 or 4 veggies--carrots, green beans, cabbage, etc.

I sometimes run out of egg beaters and don't feel like running to the grocery store to get more. My solution: if I have regular eggs in my refrigerator, I just use those, but only the whites. The yolk is where all the cholesterol and fat resides. Plan a Treat Every Day

It is important to not feel deprived when dieting - binging is frequently the backlash. To counter this tendency I plan for a treat at the end of every day. I save a reasonable block of calories/fat and have a light ice cream or a cookie. Knowing that I will get this treat helps me to say no to all the little temptations throughout the day - I will get my treat... just not right now.

I love cheese,who doesn't. So what I like to do to get my cheese fix is cut a few slices of regular cheddar cheese,put on a plate and put in the microwave for a minute or so when the outsides turn brown your getting close to perfection, (give or take)it will be "HOT" Remove from microwave,drain the grease,cool a bit and pat the rest of the grease away. Medical charities are urging the UK government to push forward with legislation allowing three-parent IVF treatments to avoid passing on mitochondrial disease. I typically throw all of my lunch's components into a single dish and take it to work with me. I also typically eat my lunch in less than 5 minutes.
I've discovered that the more dishes I bring with me, the slower I eat. So, the next time I want to toss that piece of chicken and the leftover corn and rice together, I'll just pull out three smaller containers and take them separately.

My glass is never empty.

While I am at work, I will have an occasional cup of coffee. However, I keep a tall mug of water on my desk at all times so that I can sip on it throughout the day. As soon as I have swallowed the last, I get up and go get more water. If I did not do this, I would not drink nearly as much water as I do throughout the day. A bonus is that the stainless steel inside of the mug I use adds no flavors to the water I'm drinking--I hate when my drink tastes like some other, absorbed flavor!

I LOVE cooking !!! The Sparkrecipes here are pretty easy to fix,have helpful comments that I have been able to use, and list all the calories by each ingredient! What could be easier? Getting Extra Veggies

I take care of a special need adult, she has a multitude of medical and physical problems, and she will usually eat anything, but Veggies was a hard one, she wouldn't try anything new. I found a way to get her to eat more.
We play a game in the store. Every week we go to get groceries, she gets to pick one new veggie to try, and if she picks one with out too much fuss, she can watch an hour of her favourite video when she gets home.

Incredible edible POACHED egg!

I have always been a fried egg eater. Knowing fried is not good I tried to poach some eggs and I discovered that poached is not only better for you but BETTER! I don't have to try to flip it without breaking the yoke, there are no gross hard yucky edges and it is easier to tell when it is done. Also, I get lots of protein without the added fat. My new favorite egg!

Food Savers/Seal A Meals Are My Friend

I've learned that I have trouble saying no to left overs. So my solution has been to take and cook up big huge meals....yeah I know that seems the wrong thing to do......but I cook up huge meals and then I divide it all up into food saver bags to freeze. So that instead of having left overs in my fridge calling my name it's frozen in homemade portion controlled tv dinners. It keeps me from over eating and keeps the guess work out of measuring my food out every day.

Out of Egg Beaters??

I sometimes run out of egg beaters and don't feel like running to the grocery store to get more. My solution: if I have regular eggs in my refrigerator, I just use those, but only the whites. The yolk is where all the cholesterol and fat resides. Using egg whites has the same calorie content as using egg beaters for the serving size. 3 large egg whites = approx. 1/2 c. which is 60 calories.

Stop 'pouring' the salad dressing on!

Hello fellow Sparkies! Something to try: instead of pouring your salad dressing on your salad, try pouring it into a different (smaller) container...when you go to eat your salad, dip your fork into the container with each bite. This way you are eating WAY less calories, fat, carbs...etc. because you aren't 'drowning' your salad in the dressing, but still getting the good taste with every bite :)

When Temptation Comes...GO FOR IT!

When tempted or craving those "undesirable" foods...you know, chocolate, cake, ice cream, cookies, candy...I give into it from the offset. This way, I can stay in control and find that a small piece, tiny bite, or "fun size" portion will satisfy the craving. It does not kill my caloric intake for the day and I can put that nasty craving behind me!

By holding out, I usually inevitably give in later and consume much more than had I dealt with it from the onset.
