Menu Tracking for Success
I need help remembering what I want to eat. So I plan my eating the night before. I track it then I print the "Full Day's Report". Then anything I need to make I can choose if I want to make it the night before or just have the stuff on hand. It makes life so much easier and my day is already one step ahead. 334

Portion Control snacking & Lunch ideas
One of my biggest problems before joining SparkPeople was eating before I went to bed. Uncontrolled portions of 'something..s.'
I have learned from tracking my eating habits just how much I was consuming. I had no idea! So to try to help myself, I am now making 'Portion-appropriate' choices and bagging them after I get home.
Examples: baggies of: mini-pretzels, baked chips, veggies, fruit, etc. Everyone in my family now knows that 1 baggie = 1 portion. We can grab & go!

Cheap way to try new fruits/veggies
Try going to bountifulbaskets.org and ordering a basket of fruits and veggies for cheap ($15.00). You never know what you're going to get, and I've tried tons of new veggies using it. Who knew my kids and I would love things like cabbage, kale and bok choy? While most of the foods are "normal" parts of our diet, we occasionally get something I've never bought, and it's been a definite healthy learning experience for all of us.

Switching bad for better
Spark People nutrition tracker showed me some habits I had that were not doing me any favours.
My night time supper used to be water Milo & a choc chip museli bar (240 cal) which I did not think was too bad.
I have now changed it to Herbal tea, 10 grams walnuts & a handful of grapes (90 cal).
A small change which was not hard to make, and saves 150 cal EVERYDAY (pretty much) - could be the difference between maintenance & losing?
A couple of little changes make all the...

No Red Meat....in 37 Years
I have not eaten red meat in 37 years. I was a vegetarian for 20 years of that and vegan for 15 years. I also am the 'genetic nightmare' of my family, which means I have every inherited illness or condition, including cholesterol issues, that the elders in my family had. When someone starts telling me that I should consider not eating meat, I just politely tell them "my secret" and start walking away.
